The Las Vegas University of Arizona Alumni Club adopted it's bylaws on August 26, 1993. The purpose of the Club is to promote the objectives of the University of Arizona (UofA) through the establishment and maintenance of contact between the UofA, it's Alumni and it's students.....present, former, and future.

In addition to supporting student and University needs and interests, the Club seeks to involve Alumni in educational, community, and public service events and promotes and coordinates social activities for Alumni in the general Las Vegas area.

All former students who have received a degree or completed 30 or more units of credit at the UofA are eligible for membership. Additionally, the Board of Directors of the Club have the authority to confer both associate and honorary memberships in the Club upon non-alumni, such as interested spouses. NO DUES are charged for membership within the Club, however, voluntary donations of a couple dollars are frequently requested to underwrite Club events such as Football Parties.

Currently, the Las Vegas University of Arizona Alumni Club lists approximately 300 Core Members and approximately 1,133 eligible members within the entire Las Vegas area. Core Members are considered highly interested members who have attended previous Club events or expressed interest via the Arizona Alumni Association headquarters in Tucson about receiving our mailings. The Core Membership group has been created from sign-up registers that are circulated at all Club events or by returning free business reply cards and responding to periodic e-mail surveys.

The direction and administration of the affairs and funds of the Club are vested in a Board of Directors and the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. There are at least 3 Directors which are elected for a 3-year term; Officers are elected for 2-year terms. Both Directors and Officers can serve consecutive terms in the same position.

The Club has 3 Standing Committees, i.e. Student Recruitment and Scholarship Committee, Programming Committee, and Community and Public Service Committee. The committee members and chairs are selected at-large from the general membership. Additionally, optional or special committees can be created and appointed as the needs arise within the Club.

It is the goal of the Club to have at least 2 events (including meetings) during the fiscal year for the Alumni. Ideally, more events are preferred and traditionally these have been routinely arranged throughout the year.

In the past, the Club has held a number of Football and Basketball Parties. During the past year the Club has scheduled Football Parties, Basketball Parties, St. Patrick's Day Party, Stars Baseball Parties, Cancer Benefit Walks, and a Cinco de Mayo Party. The events are announced through direct mail-outs to the Core Members, and advertised in the Las Vegas Review Journal and this website. The Las Vegas University of Arizona Alumni Club has also organized new student sendoff parties and published an Arizona Alumni and Business Directory to allow UofA Alumni to easily network their business within the Las Vegas area.

So, how do you fit? We are a group of enthusiastic University of Arizona Alumni who work hard to provide important and fun events for you. There are over 1,000 Alumni in the southern Nevada area, and we are not only asking you to consider membership within the Club but taking an active role in creating it's future. If you are interested in receiving every mailing for Alumni events in the Las Vegas area you need to be part of the "Las Vegas Area Core Group." This group is made up of some 300 Alumni in our area. If you have ever attended an event in the Las Vegas area you already are in the Core Group; assuming you signed our guest register at the event. If you haven't but want to be included in the future, please contact the Arizona Alumni Association at 1-800-BEAT-ASU or alumni@al.arizona.edu and ask the Records Department to add you to the "Las Vegas Core Group." Also, don't forget to contact the Records Department if you have moved recently.

Our goal is to reach out to the Las Vegas community, sharing our resources and experiences. In an effort to improve the lives of our fellow Las Vegans, beautify our city and raise an awareness of the University of Arizona. To achieve our goal we hope to meet the following objectives:
1. Hold at least three events each year
2. Encourage U of A alumni to participate in each event
3. To create a working list of organizations, and keep accurate records of past events
Please join us in "Bearing Down" and helping our community. We welcome any and all ideas, and look forward to your participation.

Another goal is to assist the University of Arizona in enrolling the most qualified and diverse group of students possible. Diversity is important at both the faculty and student level. The learning experience is enhanced when people from different backgrounds share ideas and approaches to problem-solving. For that reason, the Student Recruitment and Scholarship Committee has been asked by the university to make specific efforts to target underrepresented student populations, whether socioeconomic, cultural or otherwise. Additional purposes of this commit include:
1. Supporting students needs and interest
2. Encouraging the pursuit of higher education
3. Promotion and awarding of scholarship funds to deserving students.
New ideas are always welcome as to how best to achieve these goals.

See you at our next event,
Dave Gildersleeve President
